Plot Synopsis:

Andrea Thomas, a high school science teacher, was on an archeological dig when she found an amulet. It was a mystical amulet that was given to an Eqyptian Queen. Whoever wore the amulet was given great strength, the ability to move inanimate objects with her incantation, and the power to fly and run at super speed. Whenever Isis was needed, Andrea would hold the amulet up in the air and shout an incantation. Isis used her powers for good by capturing criminals, righting wrongs, and helping anyone that was in danger. Rick Mason was another teacher at her school, while Cindy Lee and Renee Carrol were her students.

Comments:

Similar to the connection the Hercules and Xena series have, Isis shared a connection with the Shazam! series. Both shows had similar formats and the characters made a few appearances on each other's show. After saving the day, Isis would then deliver the moral of the story - and in case you missed the moral, Isis would repeat it during the closing segment where she spoke directly to the viewer. Unlike Captain Marvel, who was a comic book character before the tv series, Isis was created for television and DC Comics produced a short lived comic after the series premiered. A week after Isis was taken off the air, Isis was brought back in animated form as a member of the Freedom Force, which was a segment on Tarzan and the Super 7. The Freedom Force also included Hercules, Merlin, Sinbad and Super Samuri.

News:

The complete Shazam! tv series box set was released on October 23, 2012. Isis appeared in three episodes of the series, "The Odd Couple," "Out of Focus," and "Finders Keepers." The series is not available in stores, but can be purchased through Amazon.

BCI released the The Hero High box set set on May 22, 2007. The series might be of interest to Isis fans because the "Cover Twirl" episode features an appearance of the animated Isis. For those not familiar with Hero High, it was a segment on the 1981 series, The Kid Super Power Hour with Shazam!, which featured two animated sequences Hero High and Shazam!, bookended by live action footage of the Hero High characters performing songs and telling jokes (similar to Kaptain Kool and the Kongs on The Krofft Supershow). While the Shazam! cartoons are not on the set, the set does feature the live action segments from two episodes.

Prior to the release of the live action Isis, BCI released the animated Isis on DVD on August 22, 2006. The DVD features every episode of two Filmation animated series from the late 70s, the Space Sentinels and the Freedom Force. Isis was a member of the latter group and both series (and teams) featured the character Hercules.

It turns out that the upcoming DVDs will not be the first official video release of Isis. The great Unofficial Isis Appreciation Page has unearthed information on an early 80s UK video release.
